Anyone else Christmas shopping yet?

Curious to see. I just finished for my toddler (using special offers and such from toy websites I use a lot-I have saved a ton). I have his summer birthday done-even got decorations knocked out, I have his Halloween outfit already, and now his Chrstmas is done. Well, except what Santa might do for him;) I just like to get this stuff done while items are on sale so I don’t stress or have to do last minute stuff. Anyone else do that? Oh-his big present is a wooden train set of Polar Express-his fave movie (we watched 2x’s this weekend) got it for 1/3 the price in January.
Yeah I am a bit OCD on my holidays. Plus I may change jobs this year and go to part time, so best shop while the money is there.

Brio Toys?

I just got my American Baby magazine, and inside was a wonderful wooden train set. The manufacturer is Brio Toys (www.brio.com). I went to their website and some other websites that carry Brio Toys. However, I am unable to find the train set in the magazine.

The train set is a wooden track that stores in a red, white, and blush plush horse. It has three little wooden horses as trains. There is also a red ramp with yellow accents and red and yellow end pieces for the track.

Can anyone help me locate a place to buy this set?

And, yes I’ve trie ebay.

Brio homevideo with 2 battery powered trains. Track one is build on top of Lego (Duplo) bricks. It’s a movie just for fun – and for kids. The song is “Stop that train” remix by Sticks ‘N Fire from Denmark. From the mid 90′s.

We bought a new wooden train set for our sons recently, and hubby is concerned it is painted with a lead based paint, which is dangerous for kids. So, how can we tell?

How concerned should I be about household “hazards” (toys, plastics, etc.)?

Okay I think there is a plot to make me lose my mind. I buy those expensive little wooden train cars thinking they’re good because they’re not plastic, and it turns out they’re painted with lead paint. Now yesterday there was a big article in our paper saying about the baby bottles and toys containing a dangerous kind of plastic. How concerned should I be about these things and what steps do you think I should take if any, to protect my family. I have two small kids in the house. Thanks

What toys and activities do you use to improve children's gross and fine motor?

I especially want to hear from preschool and kindergarten teachers. My 6 year old first grader is homeschooled and is clumsy at sports (this soccer season is his first exposure to organized sports). He also writes his letters from the bottom up, a habit that makes for messy letters and is VERY difficult to break.
I also have a four year old who will be five in November, is in part time nursery school and will be in kindergarten next fall. He spends lots of time playing with tiny cars, crayons, and blocks, also tinker toys, lincoln logs and wooden train tracks are his favourites. Nevertheless, his writing is so big and scrawling that I’m concerned it will be "passable for kindergarten" by next fall! He can write a few letters, his own name, can copy shapes and cut with scissors OK.

Any toys or FUN activities I can expose him to to get him ready for kindergarten? I guess I’m a little skittish since his big brother had some serious fine motor and gross motor difficulties.

I want to build a wooden train. Not a toy one to push around, but one like you’d find in the local park for kids to climb all over.

Any one know where i could get some plans from to build it?

Thanks,
Jon.
