Why are a lot of character's on young children shows based on animals or inanimate objects?
Posted on 02. May, 2011 by Toy Expert.
Today I was watching some of the programs my little brother likes to watch. I thought it was interesting that the focal point in a lot of these shows were the pets, machinery, "monster puppets". I wonder why is that? Here are some examples –
Sesame Street – animal/monster puppets
Barney- Dinosaur’s
Dinosaur Train- Dinosaurs, obv.
Handy Manny- Manny’s talking tools
Thomas the Tank Engine- Trains
Curious George- Monkey
Martha Speaks- Dog
Angelina the Ballerina- Mice
Clifford the Big Red Dog – Dog’s
Blue’s Clues- Dog
Timmy Time- Farm Animals
Arthur- Animals that act as humans
Word World- Range of animals spelling words
The Cat in the Hat- Cat
Dora the Explorer / Go Diego Go – range of animals
Do kids relate to animals more? Adult and teenage programming virtually have no animal based shows.

Does anyone know where I can find good info on PBS?
Posted on 26. Apr, 2011 by Toy Expert.
I have to do a research project on PBS and its funding for my Modern Media class. While I found a good deal of info on the network itself, I can’t for the life of me find anything on how much money it makes from merchandise, (Sesame Street in particular)
My mom bought Tickle Me Elmo for my brother way back when. We had a bunch of Sesame Street and Barney toys as kids. I personally had a buttload of Thomas the Tank Engine toys, and so did my train loving neighbor. They have to be freakin loaded by now. Why can’t I find this info? Better yet, where can I find it?
Any help would be of utmost appreciation.

How can I get my 4 year old twin boys to lower their voice when they are playing inside the house?
Posted on 27. Feb, 2011 by Toy Expert.
My twin boys start playing with their train table and slowly they keep on raising their voices. They ignore me when I tell them to use their inside voice to the point they are really loud. They are constantly narrating stories (made up). They do not watch violent cartoons or movies, though they love PBS Thomas The Tank Engine. I’ve tried time out, taking away their toys and have them earn back user privileges, but they will use anything else and turn it into trains or cars. Any suggestions?

Kitten causes five train accidents ;-)
Posted on 24. Feb, 2011 by Toy Expert.
That’s toy train accidents, to be exact! Our 9-month old kitten, Sasha, loves to watch our toy train go around our Christmas tree, and she also loves to playfully paw at it as it passes her. I recorded her playing with the train and with me one afternoon near Christmas time. I hope you enjoy it!

Christmas is over .. the gifts have all been opened .. what was your baby's FAVORITE gift this year?
Posted on 13. Feb, 2011 by Toy Expert.
My son (17 months) got a bunch of really cool toys .
He got drawing toys, musical toys .. even a couple things to ride on! (his Grandma and Grandpa got him a Radio Flyer car that holds up to 180 lbs.) ..
BUT of ALL the toys he got, the THOMAS THE TRAIN INDOOR TENT was his FAVORITE!
He uses that as his fort. He shoved all his new toys in there with a couple blankets and a pillow and he just hangs out in there. He loves it!
here it is:
